St David's Medical Foundation - the Charity supporting Medical Research and Medical Education in Wales

The work of the St David’s Medical Foundation is driven by its five Trustees. The Foundation currently holds grants and gifts (with a total value in excess of £750,000) in support of the work at the College of Medicine, focused on improving health for the population of Wales and far beyond.

The Foundation’s approach is highly efficient, guaranteeing that more than 90% of the money donated will go directly in support of research and innovation, and teaching at the College of Medicine and its collaborating institutions locally and globally. Already, the work of St Davids Medical Foundation has made vital contributions to promoting College's work:

  • development of a clinical research centre for diabetes
  • supporting research to discover the causes of childhood epilepsy, an essential step towards new approaches to prevention and treatment
  • supporting research, crossing medical and engineering boundaries, to secure early diagnosis and treatment of blood-clots in stroke and heart attack
  • building enhanced facilities for the outstanding graduates being trained as doctors at the College
  • establishing an annual guest lecture at College on the subject of translating research advance into practical medical advance
